Some webmasters use sub domains to host sites such as support pages, forums, or to demo new blog themes. Sub domains are domains that are created under or beneath a full domain. For example, a sub domain address or URL could be support.mydomain.com.
The support. is part of mydomain.com (eg. support.mydomain.com).
You can create as many sub domains for your primary domain to create as many sites. Most web hosts will allow you to create unlimited sub domains.
This brief tutorial is going to show you how to create sub domains for your sites to host forums or demo sites. This post assumes you’re using CPanel to manage your websites.
There are other tools to manage your blogs or websites online, since CPanel is the most popular, I am going to demonstrate it using Cpanel.
For example, lets say you which to create a sub domain for your domain. For this post, lets assume your domain name is mydomain.com.
If you wish to create a sub domain to demo your other blogs, create a sub domain demo. Now the full URL to your sub domain would be demo.mydomain.com.
You get the point. To get stated, logon to your domain provider and sign on. Then using their domain management tool, create a new sub domain name.
After creating the sub domain at your domain host, sign on to your CPanel account and create a new sub domain to match what was created at your domain provider.
Next, type the sub domain name and specify the location of its content. Sub domains usually live in at the root level of your web host space. Save the settings and you’re done.
Your sub domain should be created and ready to use. Now, use and FTP client to copy your WordPress content to the sub domain Document Root, then configure your WordPress settings with the Database name, Database user, and password.
Then point your web browser to the sub domain to set it up.
