Let’s be honest, computers are not going anywhere anytime soon. And some of us will need to learn how to do basic tasks with our computers.

From changing our computer names to creating users accounts, these are some tasks we may want to learn on our own.

Some of these basic tasks we’ve covered before, but haven’t talked much our Windows 10. From now on, we’ll begin writing more tutorials based on Windows.

This brief tutorial is going to show you how to change Windows 7, 8 and 10 computer name.

Most times, we’re given computers with their names already created. We get stuck with those names until we figure out how to change them. Then we find the courage to do it.

Well, you don’t have to wait any longer. Today, after reading this post, you’ll be able to change your Windows computer name with ease. Then type whatever name you wish.

I  for one, love to give my computers names I can remember, such as RichardPC, RichardUbuntu and such.

For those who are creative  can come up with better names than me.. I really don’t mind because a name is a name. LOL

Now, to get started with changing your Windows computer name, there are some requirements that must be met.

First, you must be an administrator or have administrative rights to make changes to the computer. Without the correct permissions, you won’t be able to do this.

Second, there are some characters that won’t be allowed in the computer name.. and the names are limited to certain numbers of characters.

You’ll figure it out when you type in something that are not allowed. Then try something else.

Now that you know, logon to your machine and press these keys on your Keyboard.

Windows + R  (the windows key is the one left of your spacebar with Windows logo)

That will open the run command box… next type this commands and press enter.

sysdm.cpl

When you press Enter or click the OK button, it will open your computer name page. From there you will be able to change your PC name.

You’ll then be prompted to restart your computer.. do it. And the next time you login, your computer will have a new name.

This is how you change your computer name in Windows.
