Not a fan of Ubuntu Unity? Want to go back to Gnome Classic? Well, before you hit the reset button, let me introduce you to Cinnamon Desktop, a desktop environment that’s designed for Linux mint but works great in Ubuntu.
It is a wonderful desktop, and if Unity is way of out your league, you may want to try Cinnamon. Give Cinnamon a try before you hit the reset button on Unity. This brief tutorial is going to show you how to easily install Cinnamon in Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin).

To get started, press Ctrl – Alt – T on your keyboard to open the terminal. When it opens, run the commands below to add this PPA.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-stable
Next, run the commands below to update your system and install Cinnamon Desktop.
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install cinnamon
After installing, Log Out and select Cinnamon from the logon screen to use it.
