Here’s a quick news for Linux users with HP Printers; HPLIP version 3.13.7 was recently released with support for even more printers. If you don’t know what HPLIP is, it is a project sponsored by HP to make its printers compatible and useful with Linux systems.

This release brings support for even more printers, including support for HP Deskjet 1010, HP Deskjet 1012, HP ENVY 5530 and ENVY 5535 e-All-in-One, and HP Officejet 7610 Wide Format e-All-in-One printers.

Besides supporting more printers, this version also adds support for Debian 7.1 and Fedora 19 including the latest version of Ubuntu.

Below is a list of newly supported printers

  • HP Deskjet 1010 Printer
  • HP Deskjet 1012 Printer
  • HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer
  • HP ENVY 5535 e-All-in-One Printer
  • HP Officejet 7610 Wide Format e-All-in-One Printer

Bug fixes were also added to this version including, a fix to prevent a remote stack overflow vulnerability, a solution to allow plugin installation for network printer LaserJet 2600n, and a fix which updated plugin-reason for HP LaserJet Professional P1607dn Printer series.

Here’s how to install the latest driver in Ubuntu. To get started, press Ctrl – Alt – T on your keyboard to open the terminal. When it opens, run the commands below to download the latest the driver package.

wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/hplip/hplip-3.13.7.run

 

Next, run the commands below to begin the installation.

sh hplip-3.13.7.run
