Avira, the company behind the powerful Antivirus software for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux systems is discontinuing support for Linux operating systems on June 30th 2016. The company stated that small business and consumer systems rely heavily on Windows and Mac operating systems, and that Linux usage is steadily declining. As the result, it will end support for Linux systems, including Ubuntu.

Products that will be discontinued are, Avira AntiVir Professional Linux, Antivirus Server Security Linux and Avira Free Antivirus Linux. Avira Endpoint Security and Avira Business Suite will be offered without Linux support.

Although active sales and further development of its Linux products will end June 30, 2013, Avira will continue delivering support and detection update engines for those already have these programs installed.

As of June 2013, new licenses and license renewal for all its Linux products will no longer be available.  Again, here’s the list of products that will be discontinued:

  • Avira Professional Security Linux (Avira AntiVir Professional Linux)
  • Avira Server Security Linux
  • Avira Free Antivirus Linux
  • Avira Endpoint Security (Bundle)*
  • Avira Business Security Suite (Bundle)*

*The bundles will be created without the Linux components

Enjoy!
