The Document Foundation (TDF) has just announced the third minor release of the LibreOffice 4.0 family line for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux systems, including Ubuntu with signed packages to meet or pass OS X Gatekeeper security without user intervention.

This release fixes more than a hundred bugs across all its product suite from Impress to Writer and Calc. More about the fixes can be found @ https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/4.0.3/RC1

It was also announced that the “the government of Spain’s autonomous region of Extremadura has just begun the switch to free software of desktop PCs and expects the majority of its 40,000 PCs to be migrated by the end of 2013” This will help save around $30 millions a year after the transition.

Below are some of the fixes that were included in this release.

  • A fix for Failure to read correct border info from OOXML (2nd edition) XLSX files
  • A fix that prevents LibreOffice corrupting XLSX file
  • Crash when opening particular RTF document with TABLES has been fixed
  • Borders disappear while merging some cells in RTL tables issues has been resolved
  • Impress forces excessive Xorg utilization and eventually crashes the window manager

In Ubuntu, press Ctrl – Alt – T on your keyboard to open the terminal. When it opens, run the commands below to add its official PPA.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-4-0 

 

Next, run the commands below to update your system and perform the upgrade.

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
