LiveWallpaper, a fully-animated desktop wallpaper software has just been updated to version 0.3.1. This release comes with many new features and a new preferences window that is fully compatible with Unity which lets you configure the program with ease. For those who don’t know about LiveWallpaper, it is wallpaper changer that rotates your current desktop background with animated and beautiful wallpapers that can be customized easily. By default, it comes with two built-in wallpapers; Galaxy and Nexus. Both are installed, however, the Galaxy is chosen as the default. It’s a representation of a massive galaxy consisting of stars. The Nexus is shows what seems like lots colorful stars moving in all directions.

This brief tutorial is going to show you how to easily install LiveWallpaper in Ubuntu 12.10 if you haven’t already done so.

To get started, press Ctrl – Alt – T on your keyboard to open the terminal. When it opens, run the commands below to add its PPA.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:fyrmir/livewallpaper-stable

Next, copy and paste the line below and press Enter to update your system as well as install LiveWallpaper and its configuration tool.

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install livewallpaper livewallpaper-config livewallpaper-indicator

After installing, go to Dash and first launch LiveWallpaper configuration tool. There you can choose which wallpaper to show as well as many other settings. From the config tool, you can  also turn on auto start, set the FPS limit, choose whether to show a single or multiple wallpapers, custom wallpapers and background colors.

After choosing your settings, go and launch LiveWallpaper main app and enjoy!
