Opera introduced Speed Dial while back and most modern web browsers, including Google Chrome now have it. By default, it is disabled in Firefox. This brief tutorial is going to show you how to enable it.
Speed Dial is a browser feature which puts your frequently visit web pages on every new tab so you can quickly access them. This is not the most used feature in Firefox, but a nice one to have. This tip will also work on Firefox in Windows or Mac systems. When it is enabled, everytime you open a new tab, Speed Dial will be displayed.
- Enable Firefox Speed Dial in Ubuntu / Windows / Mac
To get started, open Firefox and type line below into the browser.
Next, click ‘I’ll be careful, I promise!’ to continue.
Then look for the line shown below, double-click it and change the value to: about:newtabbrowser.newtab.url
After that, find the next line shown below and change the value to: true.browser.newtabpage.enabled
Enjoy! Everytime you open a new tab, Speed Dial will appear.
If you want to make Speed Dial show up on your home page, go to Edit –> Preferences and change the startup page to:about:newtab
