No Need to Install Guest Additions to Enable 3D Support in Ubuntu 11.10 VirtualBox Guest Machines

imagePrior to Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot), one must install VirtualBox Guest Additions Software in order to fully integrate Ubuntu guest machine with the host machine or enable 3D support.  Now in Ubuntu 11.10, all you need to do to enable 3D support or fully integrate Ubuntu guest machine and host machine is to activate VirtualBox kernel drivers in Ubuntu. This is a huge step forward, in my opinion. This tutorial shows you how to do it.

Access VirtualBox Shared Folders within Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot)

This brief guide shows you how to share a folder from the host machine and access it within Ubuntu – the guest machine using VirtualBox. We have previously covered VirtualBox on the blog many times, and showed you how to install, manage and use it to test out multiple operating systems using a single computer.

In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to use VirtualBox Share Folders feature to access folders on the host machine (machine that VirtualBox is installed on) from the guest machine. Our host machine is Windows 7 and our guest machine is Ubuntu 11.10.

How to install guest additions software in OpenSuse client

Running VirtualBox client (Linux or Windows) without guest additions software can be a pain. Not only because you always have to hit the right-Ctrl key on the keyboard, but because performance sucks, the screen size can’t be adjusted, and other features like shared folder support and mouse integration are not enabled.

How to install VirtualBox Guest Additions on Fedora Clients

If you’re reading this blog then you’re probably at the point where you’ve already installed a clean copy of Fedora (any version) in VirtualBox and want to take advantage of VirtualBox guest machine and host integration.

At this point you already know how suck it can be when your guest machines and host are not integrated. You have to always press the ‘right Ctrl’ key every time you need to jump from the guest machine to the host machine.

 

Without guest integration, you’ll notice the guest machine screen is small and can’t expand, you can’t share folders with the host machine and the guest machine runs pretty slow.

How to install Virtual Box on ubuntu 9.10 machine

In this easy-to-understand tutorial, I will show you how to get a copy of Virtual Box and install it on your ubuntu 9.10 machine. This tutorial can also be applied on previous versions of ubuntu. It doesn’t have to be straightly 9.10.

Virtual Box is a free and powerful x86 and AMD64/x64 virtualization software for businesses individuals wanting to virtualized the computer hardware. It allows you to run multiple operating systems simultaneously on a single computer to better utilize the system resources.

 

Geeks just use it for fun. Having the capability to run multiple operating systems on the same machines at the same time is a great way to test applications that run in one operating system and not the other.
