Beginning with Ubuntu Natty, most parental control tools that worked in previous versions no longer function correctly. So finding a nice application that will control the behavior or restrict kids browsing habits online is getting difficult in Ubuntu.

If you want to control what your kids see online in Ubuntu, you must now turn to online providers that sometimes perform better than your locally installed applications. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to enable the perfect parental control in Ubuntu using OpenDNS  online service. This DNS service, when configured correctly, will block unwanted content and prevent sites that distribute viruses and spyware. You can also block social networking sites if you wish.

Setup Content Filtering/Parental Control in Windows & Ubuntu with OpenDNS–Part III

This is Part Three of this series where we show you how to setup content filtering and parental control in Windows and Ubuntu Systems with OpenDNS. Part One and Part Two of this series can be accessed here and here.

In Part One, we showed you how to register and configure OpenDNS filters. Part Two shows you how to configure Windows Systems so that those filters can be applied. In this tutorial, I will show you how to configure Ubuntu Systems and apply the same filters. When configured correctly, all content deemed inappropriate will be blocked online.
