Resizing your computer hard drive just got easier with Parted Magic

parted_magic

Now you may be wondering why would anyone care about resizing his or her computer hard drive, is it even worth it?

It really depends on the individual. Obviously, not resizing your computer hard drive won’t do any harm your PC or change the way you use your computer. In fact it is pretty much safe to bet that every new Windows PC comes with a single (C:) partition that occupies that entire hard drive.

Just because a single partition scheme is common among Windows PCs doesn’t mean it’s the best option. Most PC users just don’t want to go through the hassle of resizing their computer hard drives.

There are tangible benefits one can get when resizing one big partition into multiple partitions. Partitioning a single partition into multiple allows you to:

  • Create a separation between operating system, program and data files.
  • Create a targeted backup of select partitions instead of the entire hard drive
  • Allow one system to have multiple operating systems on separate partitions
  • Increase system disk read/write performance and more efficient maintenance
  • Easily find files and folder when they are separated by partitions

I can continue but the above points should make you think again about resizing your hard disk drive into multiple units. Again, not resizing your hard drive won’t kill your PC but you might be missing some benefits that come with multiple partitions.

Taking Control Of Your Computer Hard Drive

harddiskLet face it: sometimes you want to take control of your destiny — right? You want a certain car, a new designer suit customized the way you want it and a computer of certain class — whether Windows, Linux or Mac PCs — to be just perfect.

Unless you’re some kind of a computer geek who’s willing to build his or her own PC, you probably owned a computer that was built somewhere on the assembly line. The thing about buying a computer from the store is what you see is what you get. You can’t change it much.

While most settings on the computer are better left alone, the computer hard drive is one that can be tweaked a little to fit your needs. With the price of your average computer hard drive falling, vendors are packing huge amount of storage in a typical computer these days and some have decided to make good use of that unused storage space.
