There are many things that will make your computer run slower. Sometimes, all you need to do is make small changes to the way Windows operate to improve performance. Changes like deleting temporary data, empting the deleted items folder, and adjusting Windows’ settings for improvement.

One area to look at when you want to improve your system’s performance is adjusting Windows’ theme for performance. Windows Vista, 7 and maybe 8 come with  featured themes that provide ‘’Aero desktop experience’.

The Aero desktop experience provides translucent glass design, displays live windows preview from the taskbar, switches between programs windows by press Alt + Tab, Aero flip 3D and many other features that require huge system resources to run.

Aero is nice only if you have a newer computer with more system resources like memory and higher processor speed. If your computer is lacking these resources and a theme with Aero is activated, your system may run slowly. This can negative impact on other programs and services as well.

To improve performance on a older computer with less resources, change from an Aero theme to a basic theme.

To change to a basic theme in Windows, open the Control Panel and under Appearance and Personalization, click Change the Theme.

Or right-click on a blank area of your desktop and select ‘Personalize’
