Many requests have come in lately asking our team to write simple-to-understand tutorials about setting up an online blog or website. You see, we don’t really blog about blogging. We usually talk and write about computer stuff and sometimes, we don’t even do it well.

But blogging about blogging isn’t something we want to just ignore so we’re starting a new series today about how to create and manage a website or blog online.

This series is going to start from the very beginning which we’re calling ‘blogging 101’. Well, we know there tons of articles about blogging online and some may think we shouldn’t cover this topic but I will respectfully disagree.

This website is unique. We write for newbies because writing a blog post that exclude some isn’t what we do. We write for everyone, even those just starting and don’t know where to look for help online.

So, with that said, let’s get started with how to create your own personal website or blog online and write for the world to see.

Right now, most people want to be online. They have ideas and they want to express and share them. One of the best ways to do that is to create an online blog and write about what you feel, what you want to write about, at any time.

But before jumping on the online bandwagon, let’s get some things out of the way first. First, you should have a name of what your blog is going to be called. Come up with a name and when you have, go and register it. If it’s not already taken, you should be able to register it. For this tutorial, we’re going to be using the domain named ‘mypersonalonlineblog.com’.

Now that we have a name, let’s go and register it. Many company online will help you register a domain names online. Some registrar are cheap and others are not. It’s up to you who you want to go with.

One of the best domain registrars online is domain.com. You can go to www.domain .com and register your domain there.

If you see it fit, you can register a domain name and sign up for web hosting at the same time from a single company. Like domain.com, you can register your domain and sign up for webhosting. Web hosts are the companies that host your files online for everyone to view.

So, here are the things you’ll need on day one.

  1. Domain name – a name that people type to come to your website or blog. ex. myblog.com.
  2. Host Providers  – companies to host your content (pictures, text and files) for people to see
  3. Content Management – a tool that makes managing your blog easy. ex. WordPress, Joomla, etc.

That’s it for today. Tomorrow, we’ll continue with accessing our accounts (domain & webhost) online and setting things up.

Enjoy!
