I don’t know about you, but it seems like after upgrading or installing Ubuntu 12.04, the hibernation command on the session menu isn’t available anymore. The only command available to save your session and put your computer to sleep is the Suspend command. Now if your situation is like mine, and want to bring back the hibernate command in Ubuntu 12.04, then continue below to learn how to bring it back. This will restore the hibernation command to your session menu. Without wasting anymore or your time, let’s get going.

Objectives:

  • Enable Hibernate command on the session menu in Ubuntu 12.04
  • Enjoy!

To get started, press Ctrl – Alt – T on your keyboard to open Terminal. When it opens, run the commands below to create a hibernate policy file.

sudo gedit /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/hibernate.pkla

precise_hibernate

Then copy and paste the lines below into the file and save it.

[Re-enable Hibernate]
Identity=unix-user:*
Action=org.freedesktop.upower.hibernate
ResultActive=yes

Restart your computer and you should see it.
