When was the last time you perform basic maintenance in Ubuntu or delete your web browser history and cookies? If you don’t know, then you may want to install BleachBit. BleachBit helps cleanup your system by deleting unused system files, browsing history and cache. By doing these things, your system performance may increase a bit, because the more junk you have on your system, the slower your system may perform.
This brief tutorial shows you how to install and use BleachBit in Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot).

To get started, press Ctrl – Alt – T on your keyboard to open Terminal. When it opens, run the commands below to install BleachBit.
sudo apt-get install bleachbit
Then run the commands below to start BleachBit as root. This is the best way to run BleachBit if you want to get rid of a lot more junk.
sudo bleachbit
Then begin selecting the files you wish to remove (clean) from your system.
When done, click ‘Preview’ to see how much stuff will be removed and if you’re satisfy, click ‘Delete’
