We have covered many YouTube downloader for Ubuntu, but only few can download as well as convert that downloaded file into other media formats as easily as Downverter.

This free program works in Windows, Mac and Linux and allows you to download as well as convert from one media format to another. You can Download YouTube videos in High Definition (HD 1080p, 720p), High Quality (HQ) Mp4 files, and automatically convert those videos to MP3, AVI, 3GP, MP4, MOV, WMV for your iPod, PSP, Pocket PC or Mobile Phone.

To get started, press Ctrl – Alt – T on your keyboard to open Terminal. When it opens, run the commands below to download Downverter.

wget http://www.downverter.com/Download/DownloadUbubtu32/downverter-32.deb

Finally, run the commands below to install it.

sudo dpkg -i downverter-32.deb

Next, launch Downverter from ‘Dash’

Then copy and paste the YouTube video link for Step 1.  Step 2, choose the download quality and the format to convert to, as well as the conversion quality. Don’t forget to choose where to save the downloaded file.

Step 3, click ‘Download & Convert’

For 64-bit systems, run the commands below to download the 64-bit version.
