While searching for a simple yet powerful weather indicator for Ubuntu, I stumbled upon this small panel applet called ‘Weather Indicator’ that does just that – provide detailed weather information from the top panel.
I thought you’d like it so I decided to write this brief guide to show you how to install and use it in Ubuntu 11.10. This is just a quick tip for those who need powerful weather indicator with small footprint in Ubuntu.

To get started, press Ctrl – Alt – T on your keyboard to open Terminal. When it opens, run the commands below to install it.
sudo apt-get install indicator-weather
After installing, logout and login back in or restart your computer. Once you’re logged in, launch the program from ‘Dash’
Finally, click the applet from the panel and select ‘Preferences’ to customize it and enter your city.
That’s all! Everytime you login, the program will automatically dock at the top panel while providing you detailed information of the current weather condition.
