Show Location Entry instead of Pathbar with Nautilus in Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot)

This brief tutorial shows you how to configure Nautilus file browser to always use the location entry in Ubuntu 11.10. When this is configured, it will let you quickly type the location of a folder or file without using the path-bar which can be inefficient sometimes when the path of the resource is long. This tutorial will be brief and new users to Ubuntu will appreciate it.

To get started, press Ctrl – Alt – T to open Terminal. When it opens run the commands below:

sudo apt-get install dconf-tools

oneiric_location_entry

 

After installing, launch the dconf-editor from ‘Dash’

When it opens, navigate to location below:

org --> gnome --> nautilus --> preferences --> always_use_location-entry

Close out and the location entry will be available as shown below.
