Last week I showed you how to install Radio Tray in Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot). To read that post click here.

Some users have complained that they mistakenly chose the option to dock Radio Tray in the Notification Area instead of App Indicator and that Radio Tray will not dock after launched. If you’re experiencing the same problem, this brief guide will show you how to fix it. When you install Radio Tray in Ubuntu 11.10, you must choose the option (App Indicator) when you first launch it or it will not launch in the system tray.

After installing Radio Tray in Ubuntu 11.10, you must choose the option shown below:

If you choose option #1 ( Icon in the Notification Area), it will not launch in the system tray. Continue below to learn how to fix it.

To fix it, press Ctrl – Alt – T to open Terminal. When Terminal opens, run the command below:

gedit .local/share/radiotray/config.xml

When the file opens, edit it and change the options shown below:

• change “gui_engine value to “appindicator”

Save the file and try again.
