Then select ‘System –> Ubuntu Software Center’.

Next, select ‘Edit –> Software Source’

Finally, select ‘Other Software’ tab and click ‘Add’. Next, type the line below into the box and click ‘Add Source’

Close out to go back to Software Center and search for and install ‘Gnac’

After installing, Gnac can be found in Sound & Video Category. Open Dash and search for Gnac. When Gnac opens, click ‘Edit –> Preferences’ to change the settings that fit you.

Once your setting is right, click ‘Add’ to select audio files you want to convert. When ready, select the format you wish to convert to and click ‘Convert’

That’s all!

tried it. seems to produce lots of hiss when converting from mp4 (youtube video) to mp3. try some other converters if this consistent, meaning my settings, or gnac itself.

update. installed ffmpeg with different conversion options. no static or hiss in end mp3 file. tried again gnac with different settings, instead of the high quality vbr default option, to cbr 320Kbps. same results when converting the mp4 to mp3 with audible hiss and static.
