This quick tutorial will show you how to enable files and folders to be opened with a single click in Ubuntu Lucid or Maverick. By default, you must always double click to open files or folders, but this tutorial will show you how to change that.

Getting started:

To get started, go to Places –> Home Folder.

Then click ‘Edit’ –> Preferences.

Then click the Behavior tab and choose ‘Single click to open items’ and close out.
