Enable Delete and Bypass the Trash Bin on Nautilus Context Menu in Ubuntu 10.04/10.10 Maverick Meerkat

This quick tutorial will show you how to enable the ‘Delete’ option on Nautilus context menu in Ubuntu Lucid or Maverick. If you need to delete a file or folder and don’t want it in the Trash Bin, select ‘Delete’ to permanently delete it by bypassing the Trash Bin.

Getting started:

To get started, open Nautilus by going to Places –> Home Folder.

enable_delete_mav

Then click ‘Edit’ from the top menu and select Preferences.

enable_delete_mav_1

Next, click Behavior tab and select the box to ‘Include a Delete command that bypasses Trash’ and close out.

enable_delete_mav_2

Now when you right-click a file or folder, you should be able to delete it without first sending it to the Trash Bin.

enable_delete_mav_3

Enjoy! And please come back soon.
