Block a Program or Package from Future Upgrades in Ubuntu 10.04/10.10 Maverick Meerkat

This brief tutorial will show you how to lock a program or package in Ubuntu so that it doesn’t get upgraded or changed by other programs or packages. For example, if you have a certain program configured and don’t want it changed or upgraded by other programs, then this tutorial will show you how to lock it.

 

Getting started:

 

To get started, go to System –> Administration –> Synaptic Package Manager.

Next, select the package you want to lock.

Then click Package –> ‘Lock Version’

The selected package will be locked and blocked from future upgrades. Other packages will also not be able to change the current setting and version of the package.
