This quick tutorial will show you how to easily configure common programs or services to automatically startup everytime you login to Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick. If you consistently used a particular program and want it to startup everytime automatically when you login, then this tutorial will show you how.
Getting started:
To get started, go to System –> Preferences –> Startup Applications.
All programs and services in here that are checked will auto start everytime you login. To disable a program from starting, un-check it and close.
To add your custom programs to startup automatically, click the ‘Add’ button.
Then type the command for the program if you know it and click Add. The command to start Firefox is:
firefox %s
Firefox is now added to the list of programs or services to automatically startup when you login.
If you don’t know the program’s command, you can always click the ‘Browse’ button to select it.
Most programs or services that can be run by normal users are in the /usr/bin directory. Browse there to select the program you want started when you login.
Software Center is selected from the /usr/bin directory.
When you login, Ubuntu Software Center will automatically startup. Firefox should also auto start if you added it.
Enjoy! And please come back soon.
