This quick tutorial will show you how to add the Trash, Home, Network and Computer Icons to your Desktop in Ubuntu Lucid. If you installed Lucid and can’t find any of the above mentioned icons, then continue below to learn how to add them.

Getting started:

To get started, press Alt-F2 on your keyboard, then type the command below and click Run:

gconf-editor

Then browse down the list to apps –> nautilus –> desktop, and put a check mark into the boxes next to the name of each icon. Close out when done.

apps --> nautilus --> desktop
