If you need a little help spotting malicious websites or websites with inappropriate contents with Chromium (Google Chrome) in Ubuntu, then check out this add-on or extension called WOT (Web Of Trust) for Chromium. WOT allows you to view a site’s ratings before you ever clicked on the link to go there. This can add another layer of protection for your Ubuntu system.
Getting stated:
To get started, install Chromium by reading this post.
After installing, go to Application –> Internet –> Chromium Web Browser
Next, click on Chromium Wrench from the top right and select Extensions.
If you never installed any extension, click ‘browse the gallery’ to search for extensions.
Next, type ‘Web Of Trust’ in the search box and press Enter.
Select the WOT extension shown below
Click Install
Click Install again.
After installing, a new tab should automatically open. Click the X to close out the first as shown below.
Next, select ‘Searching’ tab
Then check all the boxes that WOT should apply to. The recommended choice is to select all. Click Apply setting when done.
The next time you try searching using Google, Yahoo or Bing, you should see Green, Orange, or Red circles after each link.
Green = Trusted, Red = Not Trusted, ones with Question marks means Not Verified.
