Install Extra Screensavers for Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx

As you may already know, Ubuntu has screensavers that are installed with every new installation. But few people actually know that you can enable a lot more screensavers in Ubuntu easily. This tutorial will show you how to enable more screensavers including WebCollage that are not already installed by default.

Getting started:

To get started, go to Applications –> Ubuntu Software Center.

dropbox_mav_upd_9_thumb[1]

Then search for and install xscreensaver-data-extra:

xscreensaver-data-extra

screensaver_extra_mav_thumb[1]

After installing, go to System –> Preferences –> Screensaver.

screensaver_extra_mav_1_thumb[1]

You’ll notice a lot more screensavers are now available

WebCollage is not part of xscreensaver-data anymore. You must now install it separately. To install WebCollage, go to Applications –> Ubuntu Software Center and search for:

xscreensaver-screensaver-webcollage

screensaver_extra_mav_3_thumb[1]

WebCollage lets you display live searches of images on Google, Yahoo and Bing as a screensaver for your desktop.

Enjoy! And please come back soon.

Awesome post, although it’s old it still works lol. Thanks!

This seemed to work to an extent, but it did not install all of them. In other words, there are still some which need to be installed, only far fewer. Is it because I attempted upgrading xscreensaver first and aborted when I found this page?
    Thanks!
