How To End/Stop Hung Programs In Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx

Ubuntu Maverick ImageThis brief tutorial will show you how to force a program to close in Ubuntu that will not response when you try to close it. As you may well know, Ubuntu is pretty much stable and programs are usually responsive. But when a program fails to response because of some errors, you’ll be ready to kill it.

 

Getting started:

 

To get started, right-click a blank area on the Top or Bottom Panel and select ‘Add to Panel’

 

force_quit_mav_thumb[1]

 

Then scroll down an select ‘Force Quit’ (Force a misbehaving application to quit)

When a program you’re trying to close won’t respond, click on ‘Force Quit’ applet on the panel.

Then select the misbehaving application to close it.
