Set Webmail Services as Your Default Mail Reader in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx

This short tutorial will show you how to configure Ubuntu Lucid to use webmail services like Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail or Zoho Mail to handle all your mailto: requests. To make this to work, you need to install the package ‘Desktop Webmail’ in Ubuntu and configure it to be your proffered mail reader.

 

Getting Started:

 

To get started, go to Applications –> Ubuntu Software Center

Then type ‘desktop webmail’ in the search box, select and install ‘Desktop Webmail’

Next, go to Applications –> Internet –> Desktop Webmail

Choose the webmail provider you want to use as your default mail handler

When you’re done, to go System –> Preferences –> Preferred Applications

Choose Desktop Webmail as your preferred Mail Reader and close.

The next time you try clicking on an email address, you’ll get a prompt to login to your preferred webmail provider and send the email.
