This article shows you how create a perfect content filtering and parental control system in Windows and Ubuntu 11.04 Natty with DynDNS. DynDNS provides online DNS services that can also be used to protect you and your family from unwanted content. When configured correctly, categories that you deem inappropriate will automatically be blocked. In this tutorial, I will show you how to register and configure DynDNS Defense filters. Part Two and Three will guide you in configuring Windows and Ubuntu Systems to apply these filters.
Getting Started:
The first thing you want to do is click here to register and confirm your email address if you don’t already have an account.
When your have confirmed your email address, go to DynDNS and login to your account, then click ‘Services & Pricing’
Next, select ‘DynDNS Free’ service and continue.
Then click ‘Create Free Hostname’
Next, in the hostname field, type a hostname to use. Then type your current IP address in the IP Address field shown and click ‘Add to cart’
DynDNS shows your current IP Address below the IP Address field. Use it.
Next, select ‘Proceed to checkout’
Then click ‘Activate Services’. Since you we’re using the free version, no cost will be associated.
Next, select ‘Internet Guide’ from below ‘My Services’ menu.
Then click ‘Add New’ and continue.
A pop up screen should open. When it does, click ‘Add’ to add a new Defense Plan.
Then select a ‘Defense Strategy’ and save. There are four levels of defense strategies to choose from stating from no domain names blocked to high.
If you want to manually select categories to block, then select ‘Blocked Categories’ tab and begin selecting categories to block.
Now your defense plan is created and you’re ready to apply these filters to your desktop.
