How To Schedule Disk Cleanup In Windows Vista or 7

Disk Cleanup is a utility in Windows which helps you free up space on your hard drive by searching for unnecessary files and folders that can safely be deleted.

Temporary Internet files and folders get created when you browse the Internet, download programs and run some ActiveX controls. Overtime, if these files and folders are not removed, they built up in large numbers and can slow down your PC.

 

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to schedule Disk Cleanup in Windows Vista or Window 7 with Task Scheduler.

 

Scheduling Disk Cleanup:

 

The first thing you need to do is create and define the Disk Cleanup perimeter. How, What, and Where to clean.

To do this, click Start –> and type ‘cmd’ in the search box. Then select the program in the list above.

Next enter the following command and press enter.

Cleanmgr.exe /sageset:1

Then, define where and what to clean. Select the files and folder to clean when the task run as scheduled. Once done, click OK

Next to click Start and type ‘Task Scheduler’ in the search box.

Next click Create Task

Enter a name and description for the task and other security options below.

Next, click the Triggers tab and click New

Choose to begin the task on schedule, then select to run weekly on Saturday. Next enable it and click OK.

Next, click the Actions tab and then New

Define the command and argument you created earlier. This will perform the perimeter you defined. Click OK once done.

Select the Conditions tab and enable the task to wake up the computer to run.
