Knoppix Linux: Test drive Linux before installing

Many PC users around the world would like to expe­ri­ence the sta­bil­ity and secu­rity of the Linux Oper­at­ing Sys­tem. How­ever, get­ting them to install Linux is the most dif­fi­cult part. For many, it’s because they can’t afford a sec­ond PC to install Linux. Oth­ers want to try Linux but don’t know how or how eas­ily it can be done.

In this simple-to-follow tuto­r­ial, I will show you how to run a full edi­tion of Knop­pix Linux onto your Win­dows machine from a CD or DVD dri­ves with­out affect­ing or mod­i­fy­ing the machine. Run­ning Knop­pix from a CD/DVD makes it easy to expe­ri­ence all that Linux has to offer in terms of secu­rity, sta­bil­ity, and usabil­ity with­out actu­ally dis­turb­ing your Win­dows Oper­at­ing System.

 

Knop­pix is a free Linux OS and appli­ca­tions com­pressed and pack­aged onto a CD or DVD that boots and runs entirely from the CD or DVD dri­ves of your com­puter. It includes most of the appli­ca­tions and soft­ware that make up the Linux OS. Knop­pix is known by Linux enthu­si­asts as the dis­tri­b­u­tion of choice for new­com­ers. It allow new­com­ers to test and try Linux before actu­ally installing it.

 

 

To test Knop­pix and see if it fits your needs, then fol­low my slides below.

 

1) Click here to down­load an ISO image of Knop­pix or buy the CD or DVD to be mailed to you.

if you’re down­load­ing the ISO image, you’ll need to burn it to a blank CD or DVD before you can boot from it. To learn how to burn ISO image click here

 

2) With the live CD or DVD in your hands, pop it into your computer’s CD/DVD Rom drive and boot from it.

3) Wait for the CD or DVD to auto boot and continue.

4) Within few sec­onds, your sys­tem is ready.

5) Refresh­ing to know that Vir­tu­al­Box comes as part of the package.

6) If you need to install a pro­gram click on bot­tom far left icon (Start) –> Pref­er­ences –> Synap­tic Pack­age Man­ager.

7) Search and select the pack­age to install then click Apply.

8) Pack­ages will be down­loaded and installed.
