Perfect OpenSuse 11.2 Installation
If you’re familiar with Linux Operating System then you should know that Linux is the work of countless individuals who came together to design an operating system not owned by a single entity but a community of like minded people willing to abandon the old ideas that only corporations could do it better.
Back in the days large corporations with huge resources and power developed almost everything from operating systems to business applications and productivity suites.
The idea that only large corporations with huge resources could develop the best software quickly evaporated when few developers decided to create a free operating system for the masses. With the help of other developers, the few turned into thousands and today, the Linux Operating Systems has become a serious competitor to other operating systems like Windows and Mac. Linux has become so successful that those with little technical skills are embracing it as their workstation of choice.
The success of Linux also created another problem, because Linux is free for everyone to use and make changes to it as they like, a countless variations of the OS have been developed. It makes it a little difficult to decide which of the different versions of Linux is best for business, home users or students. Some prefer Ubuntu for its quick release cycles, other just love OpenSuse for its support. There’s a huge battle going on in the Linux community about this so I am not going to pick a side here. What I am going to do is demonstrate how to install a perfect OpenSuse Linux.
What is OpenSuse Linux?
OpenSuse is a free and Linux-based operating system for your PC, Laptop or Server. You can surf the web, manage your e-mails and photos, do office work, play videos or music and have a lot of fun!
Getting a copy of OpenSuse is easy but be mindful, the operating system is very big. Downloading it will take a while if you have a slow Internet connection. Instead of downloading the software, you can request a DVD to be mailed to you.
Click here to download a copy of the OS and burn to a blank DVD. After burning it, pop it into your computer and begin the installation.
1) Select your language of choice and continue.
2) Accept the terms and continue with the installation.
3) At this point you select the installation mode. New, Upgrade or Repair.
4) Selecting the correct time zone is always important.
5)You have three choices here. GNOME Desktop, KDE and Other. GNOME Desktop is like the standard desktop in the Linux community. KDE is like the Windows of the Linux community. KDE has cool layouts and design features but slow compare to GNOME which is pretty lightweight. If you have a fast PC then KDE might not be a bad choice.
